Welcome to OrangeCountyBagpiper.com! My name is Rory, and I am a professional bagpiper serving Orange County, And San Diego, CA
I have created this site for the enjoyment of pipers and non-pipers alike.
If you are interested in possibly hiring me to play bagpipes at a function. Please visit this page.
Currently: I am based in San Diego, and I play with a band as well as solo.
I have played pipes solo for many years, and I currently compete at the Grade 2 level in solo competitions. (The lower the grade number, the higher the skill level).
As a solo player, I have played many weddings, birthdays, funerals, and military commemoration events.
One notable performance included playing for George Killian (of Killian’s Irish Red Beer) as he arrived at the airport in Denver CO to meet with the Coors Company.
Previous Band Experience:
I played for 2 years as a competing member of the LA Scots Grade 4 pipe band in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
I played for 1 year as a competing member of the Colorado Skye Grade 3 pipe band in Colorado Springs, CO.
I played for 1 year as a competing member of the Ft. Collins Grade 3 pipe band in Ft. Collins, CO.
I was a founding member of the Cork Volunteers bagpipe band in Denver CO, and went on to become the Pipe Major of that band, leading them into their first every competition in Vail CO in 1995.
As the Pipe Major of that band, I taught at least 5 pipers how to play from complete beginners, to becoming playing members of the band.
I started playing pipes around 1992-1993. I first learned as a beginning member of the Colorado Irish Pipe Band, and went on to take private lessons from Ben Holmes, of Arvada, CO.
I competed in my first solo competition around 1993 and won the Borreag Medal prize for the best new piper
